Treating Autism
The Center for LifeSkills
is a leading clinic for the treatment of children with
Autism Spectrum Disorders.
We focus not only on
traditional Speech and OT goals, but also life skills such
as teeth brushing, handling seasonal clothing transitions
(tolerating a coat/hat, etc.), handling haircuts, new shoes,
etc.
Floor Time
The Center for LifeSkills applies the Developmental,
Individual Difference, Relationship-based (DIRŪ/Floortime™)
Model in the treatment of Autism. This is a framework that
helps clinicians, parents and educators conduct a
comprehensive assessment and develop an intervention program
tailored to the unique challenges and strengths of children
with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other developmental
challenges.
The objectives of the
DIRŪ/Floortime™ Model are to build healthy foundations for
social, emotional, and intellectual capacities rather than
focusing on skills and isolated behaviors.
The Whole Family
We have expertise in helping
the whole family deal with rigid behaviors related to eating
and food choices, activity transitions, and playing with
others, etc. See the Mealtime
Matters section for more information on rigidity
with food.
Parents and families need a
place where they can share their frustrations and successes.
In our office, we want to know how life is at home and can
usually suggest ways to help make the most minute tasks
easier.
