Services - How We
Work
Services
The Center for LifeSkills is
a full-service pediatric therapy clinic. Please use one of
the quick links (on the right) to learn about specific areas
of concentration.
We also work with the
Music Therapy Enrichment Center and the
Creating Connections Company to provide a
comfortable and familiar atmosphere for clients enrolled in
music therapy. We are able to share goals and progress with
the music therapists and offer continuity of care across
many therapeutic settings.
The Process
The first step is to set up an evaluation appointment, which
is typically about 60 minutes long. Depending on the
services you are interested in, the evaluation is done by
either Stefanie Orkin (speech-language pathologist),
Brenda Richards (occupational therapist), or both.
Based on our findings, we
tailor weekly therapy session(s) to your child's needs.
What Makes Us Different
The Center for LifeSkills is
a small, privately-owned clinic. The comfortable environment
promotes healing not only for the
child - but for the whole family.
We're not a medical office.
The Center is located in a low-traffic area with direct
access to our waiting room from our parking lot.
Parents are often surprised
at how comfortable their "hard-to-transition children" are
in our office - even on the first visit. We are very proud
of this.
We make therapy life easy
with flexible scheduling handled by the therapists. We are
happy to talk on the phone and return e-mails quickly. We do
not bill for our time to do this.
We often review IEP goals
with families and are eager to be part of the development
process.
Billing
In-Network Insurance
We are providers (in-network)
for Medical Mutual of Ohio and Anthem Blue Cross
and Blue Shield. If you have coverage through either of
these insurers, just present your card to us at the initial
evaluation. You will be responsible for the co-pay which
will be either a flat fee per session or a percentage of the
negotiated rate paid by the insurance company.
Some insurances plans have
deductibles. You will be responsible for the entire amount
of the session (the negotiated rate) until your deductible
is met. Please call the phone number on the back of your
card to find out about your specific benefits.
You should ask the following
questions:
-
Do I have coverage for
speech therapy and/or occupational therapy?
-
How many visits for
speech therapy and/or OT do I have per year? Is it a
calendar year?
-
Do I have to meet a
deductible? If so, how much is the deductible? Is there
a different individual deductible for my child and a
family deductible? How much of the deductible have I
already met?
-
Am I responsible for a
co-pay (flat fee per session) or co-insurance
(percentage of the negotiated rate)?
Out-of-Network
Insurance
Families with insurance
benefits other than Medical Mutual of Ohio and
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield may be able to use
out-of-network benefits. This requires you to be responsible
for the total amount billed by us after your insurance
company pays its usual and customary rate.
Many families need to use
their out-of-network benefits because they are unable to
find an adequate therapist within their own insurance
company, or, the therapists who are providers for their
specific insurance companies are located too far away from
their homes.
To find out about
out-of-network insurance benefits, call the number on the
back of your card and ask the following questions:
-
Do I have coverage for
out-of-network speech therapy and/or occupational
therapy?
-
How many visits for
Speech and/or OT do I have per year? Is it a calendar
year?
-
Do I have to meet a
deductible? If so, how much is the deductible? Is there
a different individual deductible for my child and a
family deductible? How much of the deductible have I
already met?
-
Am I responsible for a
co-pay (flat fee per session) or co-insurance
(percentage of the negotiated rate)?
*It is ultimately the
client's responsibility to find out about insurance benefits
before beginning treatment. The Center for LifeSkills,
Brenda Richards, and Stefanie Orkin are not responsible for
insurance denials.
